Business during the week has not been quite so brisk as last week. Bottled ales scarce, Forster’s 12s Od to 13s; McEwan’s, 11s to 11s 3d; Tennant’slls; Bull Dog, Us. Stout in fair demand and supply atllsOd to 12s. The wooloack season sales are nearly over, they are quoted at 3s 8d to Ss Od. The cornsacks arrivals this week from Calcutta have replenished the market: but nearly all being sold to arrive, 8s has been taken for 100 to land. Breadstufls market Is extremely quiet. Grocers’ and oilmen’s stores little doing. Stocks of rice are much increased by recent arrivals from Calcutta ; quotations remain at £32 10s for Patna. Tobacco quiet b-yond trade wants. Spirits, as usual at this season, are quiet— Hennossy, case, 33s to 33s Cd and 345; whisky in moderate demand, 5s 6d to 3s Od. Kerosene dull; holders of Devon’s ask Is 4d to Is 4Jd. Castor oil in demand, and scarce; sales at 6s Cd. Turps scarce, at 3s 4Jd. Wool: Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report that at their sale yesterday prices realised were considered satisfactory considering the state of the Homo market. They quote—Greasy half-bred OJd to Old. and merino OJd to Old: washed CRBSorcd, 12jd to 13d. TIMAEU. Friday. John King and Co. report that at their usual wool sale bidding was brisk. There is, however, a decided downward tendency in both bank and insurance shares, and a disinclination to invest. New Zealand Banks (new issue) are slightly improved, and are quoted at £2O to £2O 6s, but we hoar of no large transactions.
