Building material brisk; English iron, 20 guage, £2O 10a: slates, £lO per 1000. Candles are rising. HenBessy’s case, SOs; bulk, 10s 9d (in bond); ale, 23s (case); British ale and stout, 11s and 10s 9d respectively. Sperm candles, lOJd; kerosene, 7s, case, Woolpacks in demand at 4s. DUNEDIN, Friday. Business during the week has not been quite so brisk as last week. Bottled ales scarce, Forster’s 12s Od to 13s; McEwan’s, 11s to 11s 3d; Tennant’slls; Bull Dog, Us. Stout in fair demand and supply atllsOd to 12s. The wooloack season sales are nearly over, they are quoted at 3s 8d to Ss Od. The cornsacks arrivals this week from Calcutta have replenished the market: but nearly all being sold to arrive, 8s has been taken for 100 to land. Breadstufls market Is extremely quiet. Cement Is enquired for ; stock on the spot mostly In the hands of one firm, who quote at 21s, but sales to arrive from Auckland and Wellington are freely made at 17s to 17s 6d for first brands. Candles are inquired for, DeKouhaix’ are firm at fld to OJd for wholesale parcels a line of 250 DoEoubaix’ brought at auction gld ; Kitchen’s local make are coming fairly into use. In fish litttle is doing; salmon remains firm at 8s 6d; lobster out of market; oysters, 100 cases at auction brought 3s 9d. In dried fruits little doing; Valencias have been sold at 4Jd. Grocers’ and oilmen’s stores little doing. Stocks of rice are much increased by recent arrivals from Calcutta ; quotations remain at £32 10s for Patna. Tobacco quiet b-yond trade wants. Spirits, as usual at this season, are quiet— Hennossy, case, 33s to 33s Cd and 345; whisky in moderate demand, 5s 6d to 3s Od. Kerosene dull; holders of Devon’s ask Is 4d to Is 4Jd. Castor oil in demand, and scarce; sales at 6s Cd. Turps scarce, at 3s 4Jd. Wool: Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report that at their sale yesterday prices realised were considered satisfactory considering the state of the Homo market. They quote—Greasy half-bred OJd to Old. and merino OJd to Old: washed CRBSorcd, 12jd to 13d. TIMAEU. Friday. John King and Co. report that at their usual wool sale bidding was brisk. The following are the average prices:—3o bales crossbred, 7Jd ; 3 baits do, Sid, an extra lot DJd; locks, from 8P to 4Jd; merino lambswool, Sid; longwoolcd skins, Ss 6d and 4s lid to 5s 6d; lambskins, 8d to Is 2d; hides dull of sale, average SJd; calfskins, 3id, AUCKLAND SHAEE MAEKET. The share market has been dull during the past week, and leaves nothing to report, as quotations remain unaltered. There is, however, a decided downward tendency in both bank and insurance shares, and a disinclination to invest. New Zealand Banks (new issue) are slightly improved, and are quoted at £2O to £2O 6s, but we hoar of no large transactions.
