MEETING OF REGATTA COMMITTEE.

A largely attended meeting of the Wellington Regatta Committee was held in the. Pier Hotel last night ; Captain Bose in the chair.

A letter was received from Messrs. Levin and Co., enclosing a cheque for £lO 10s.; also one from the Wanganui Boating Club, stating that they intended to send three boats, and were going to compete in four or five races. It was resolved to allow their entries to be post until after they had examined the rules, &c. It was resolved that the tender of the Artillery Band be accepted to play on the day of the regatta. As H.M.S. Nymphe had only just arrived, the committee resolved that if she was in harbor on the day of the regatta she also could make post entries. A number of cups were sent down from the various jewellers, for the committee to choose from, and Messrs. Hill, Hayes, and Batkin were appointed a sub-committee to make the selection. The amount of money accruing from the entries was £65 2s. The following are the numbers of entries : Open boat race, 5 entries ; first-class yachts, 6 entries; ships’gigs race, 2 entries ; coastersrace, 2 entries (one under protest) ; four-oared outrigger, 2 entries; junior four-oared outrigger, 2 entries; whaleboat race, 2 entries ; second class yachts, 7 entries ; junior pair-oared race, 4 entries ; four-oared in-rigged race, 3 entries ; ships’ boat-sailing race, 4 entries ; scullers’ race, 3 entries ; senior pair-oared race, 3 entries. As there was some misunderstanding regarding the coasters’ sailing race the committee arranged to meet on Saturday night to talk the matter over.
