Friday, January 10. Two inebriates were dealt with in the usual manner for drunkenness. LARCENY. John Nichols was charged on the information of James Ramsay with stealing and driving away from Horokiwi Valley one mare of the value of £2O. ; Mr, Edwards defended the accusedJames Ramsay, a milkman residing at Horokiwi Valley, deposed that ho knew the prisoner. He had on several occasions done small jobs of work for witness. On the Ist January accused took the mare away. Witness told him not to take it away. Information was given to the police. By Mr. Edwards : Accused is my stepson. I made a mistake in laying the information, and now wish to withdraw tlio case. -There is a dispute about the ownership of the horse. , His Worship remarked that a criminal information should not have been laid against accused, and discharged him. • BREACH OF THE PRISONS ACT.

Hugh Thew was charged with committing a breach of the Prisons Act, 1873, on the 9th inst., with holding communication with a prisoner named James Palmer. Prisoner said that it was the first time he had been in town, and did not kuow that he was doing any wrong. James Dellahaey, one of the warders of the gaol, gave evidence to the effect that the prisoner rushed into a gang of prisoners as they were returning from work. The Governor of th 3 gaol stated that the accused was a now arrival, and perhf.ps did hot know that he was doing wrong, and under the circumstances he would not press the charge.

Prisoner was fined 10s. and costs, or seven days’ imprisonment with hard labor. DAMAGING PROPERTT. Margaret S, White was charged -with breaking a window belonging to George ICemp, of the value of 10s. ’ The case was proved, and defendant was fined ss. and costs, and ordered to pay the amount of damage done. THREATENING LANGUAGE. The same prisoner was then charged with using threatening and abusive language towards Eliza Kemp. Defendant was bound over to keep the peace for three mouths. To find oue surety in £lO. MAINTENANCE. John Kaple was charged on the information, of Sarah Page with neglecting to contribute towards the support of his illegitimate child.— Defendant said he was willing to. keep the child. His Worship adjourned the case for fourteen days in order that the parties might arrange matters amicably. The Court then adjourned.
