The steamer Hula left Foxton on Tuesday evening, crossed the bar at 7, and arrived hero at 4 yesterday morning. Tho steamer Manawatu loft Wanganui at 10 o’clock, on Tuesday night, and arrived in harbor at midday yesterday. Flue weather was experienced along the coast. The steamers Kennedy, from Nelson, and Charles Edward, from Kekerangre, are due here this morning. The topsail schooner Hannah Barratt loft yesterday for Lyttelton. The brigantine Pelican loaves to-day for Groymout, with a cargo of general merchandise. The barque Aloxa was shifted from the wharf yesterday. She leaves for Newcastle during the week. The ships St. Leonards and Wairoa are both filling up fast. By Saturday they both expect to close their hatches, and will probablysail on Wednesday. Tho barque Cotiua was hauled away from the wharf yesterday to make room for the Fernglen. The schooner Laurel has nearly completed discharging her cargo from Hobarton. The Sophia R. The fine ship Pleiades, of Shaw, Saville, and Co, was taken to the berth vacated by the Alexa yesterday.: Since her stay in tho anchorage the ship has been fresh painted and everything made tidy about her decks, anil looks as it she has just coma off the Slip after having a. thorough overhaul. Her hatches will bo opened to-day. The brigantine Helen A. Holmes shifted to tho wharf yesterday afternoon, and will commence discharging to-day. She is a fine looking craft, of American build, and registered for nine years. She has a large carrying capacity, sails very last, and is for sale or charter. The wool is being landed from- the coast now very quickly ; almost every vessel that arrives brings a full cargo. The large new shed is. nearly full, so that the ships Otakl and Hermlone will be able to get a good start. Tho latter vessel took, her first wool on board yesterday. The donkey engine engaged in discharging the Malay capsized yesterday. It appears that one of the sheaves carried; away, which caused the engine to turn over. The safety valve at once blow out, and the boiler very soon emptied itself of steam. Fortunately there was no damage done. The diver was engaged yesterday afternoon patting copper on the piles belonging to tho Queen’s Wharf. A crowd of persons collected round to see him descend, and waited anxiously to see him eorao up. As, however, there was no likelihood of his making an appearance until he had completed bis work the onlookers left.
