THE LATE MR. GILLIGAN.
10 THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib,—Had the late Mr. James Gilligan been a Bottler in any part of Australia his lamented death 'would have occasioned a whole column in the Australasian and other newspapers, commenting upon his unostentatious performances on the turf, his keen lore of sport, and his persevering and liberal endeavors to promote it on all occasions, never tiring; and when beaten in racing never disheartened, but running again and again. His well-known form will be missed on the Hutt Racecourse next month by his numerous friends. A more kindly man never lived, always ready to lend a hiping hand to those who required it.—l am, &c.. W.
