TAWA FLAT SCHOOL.

The annual distribution of prizes took place at the above school on Monday, the 23rd inst. Hr. Taylor, the chairman of the school committee, distributed the ; .prizes p there were also present Mr. Knigge and a few lady visitors. Mr. Taylor addressed the scholars, congratulating them on the progress they had made during the past year, five having passed the sixth standard, six the fifth, and a proper-, tionate number in the other standards. He enjoined regular and punctual attendance, because as there were certain fixed laws in nature, so it was one of the laws connected with lessons, that unless boys and girls attended regularly and punctually, and applied themselves to their work, they, could not become good scholars* - The following are some of the chief prize-takers :—Standard Vl. Boys : Ist, Hermann Knigge ; 2nd, Francis Thomas Moore. Girls : Ist, Marian Massey; 2nd, A. Lavinia Knigge; 3rd, Amelia May Taylor. Standard V.—Boys : Ist, William Eyan; 2nd, Walter Andrew Taylor; 3rd, James Duncan. ' Girls; Ist, Martha L. Knigge; 2nd, Annie Mexted; 3rd, Isabella Duncan. Standard IY.—Boys : Ist, Christopher Eyan ; .2od, John Duncan ; 3rd, Frank Nett. Girls ; Ist, Kate Morgan ; 2nd, Emma Morgan ;. 3rd, Kate M. Taylor. Mr. Knigge then addressed the school, saying he hoped that the valuable books which had then been placed in their hands would not be laid upon the shelf, but that they would read them carefully, and he might repeat the words which Mr. Lee had used when examining the school, and oak them to reflect on what they read, and regulate their ; conduct in life in accordance with the lessons taught to them. Mr. Taylor accorded a vote of thanks on behalf of himself and the committee to Mr. Home,' the teacher of the school, for the selection of books hehad made.
