Captain John McLean, from Melbourne via -Southern ports, arrived in harbor yesterday at 9 a.m. She left Sandridge Kailway Pier at 2.40 p.m. on the ISth instant; cleared the Heads at 5.15 p.m., and Bass Strait at noon next day. Made New Zealand about the 3.W, Cape on the 19th;.passed the Solanders at 7.3 p.m. same day, and arrived at the Bluff at midnight ; sailed from the Bluff at 5 p.m. on the 20tb, and arrived at Port Chalmers at 5.15 a.m. of the 21st. Left same evening at 4.45 o'clock, and was at Lyttelton at 10 o'clock next morning, and away again in the afternoon at 0 o’clock, arriving here as above. Experienced fresh E.S.E. winds with line - weather across the middle ground, and light airs up the coast. Owing to there being no room at the wharf, she bad to be content with being triple banked, and was consequently unable to discharge her cargo, which she took on to Nelson, having left here for that port at two o’clock yesterday afternoon. It is Captain McLean's intention if possible to go in and out of Nelson on the one tide, and if he succeeds in so doing he will arrive here this forenoon, andusail again j n the afternoon for Melbourne via the South : bnt if he Is unable to do so, the Kingarooraa cannot arrive here before late tomorrow night, and therefore cannot sail for Melbourne till Saturday. However, there is every possibility of her going in and out of Nelson on the one tide and arriving here in the morning. The Union Company’s s.s. Wakatipn sailed at 6.45 yesterday evening for the South. She will call at Lyttelton on the road to Port Chalmers, as she has a large quantity of general cargo .and a number of passengers to land there. While in this port yesterday she was busily engaged in landing about 250 tons of general cargo. She alsoput out 800 tons coal into a bulk, and it is intended that an her return to port from her trip South that she will leave here another 300 tons. The barque Panola sailed from Port Chalmers for this port on the 20th Inst. She brings about 320 tons general cargo from New York. The s.s. Tanpo sailed for Southern ports at 3 o clock yesterday afternoon. , The ship Zealandia has now on board 3500 bales of wool, besides a quantity of tallow and hides. It is expected that she will be able to get away by her advertised date, as wool is at present coming into her very freely, and has every prospect of continuing so. The brig Neptune arrived at Newcastle on the 12th inst„ after a good run of ten days: and the barque Anstralind, also from this port, arrived there on the 11th inst., after a rather protracted passage of nineteen days, caused by light unfavorable winds. The Neptune was expected to have, sailed again on the 18th inst.

The various war vessels attached to the squadron on the Australian station (says the Echo of the 2nd Inst) will rendezvous in Sydney in December to meet the Commodore’s new command, 'Wolverine; and in the event of a declaration of war, a frigate will be kept cruising off Cape Otway. The s.s. Kiwi came round from the Patent Slip yesterday.. She will sail this afternoon for Castlepoint, Urite, Te Awaite, and Napier also, as was originally intended. The ketch Reliance and the schooner Rose of Eden, from Pclorons Sound, arrived here yesterday timber laden. < The p.s. Lyttelton arrived here from Blenheim at 0 a,in. yesterday-’. She 1 left that port at 9,30p.m, the previous day, and'had fine weather across. She returned to Blenheim at 11 o'clock last night. ' The s.s. Kennedy, Captain Palmer, arrived here from Nelson yesterday at 7 a.m. She left that port at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, and experienced light winds with foggy weather across. She took her departure for Kekerangi yesterday evening. Steam-was got up in the s.s. Taranaki .yesterday afternoon to the full pressure, and the engines for the first time driven at full speed. They worked wonderfully srriooth for new machinery. The p a. Manawatu sailed for Wanganui last evening at 8 o'clock, and the, s.s. Stormbird for the same port at 9 o'clock. The s.s. Tni,. Captain Bonner, arrived here from Pox ton at 10.30 last night. -She loft there at 1.30 p.m. yesterday, and crossed the bar at 2.30 p.m. Experienced fine weather throughout. .
