PRIZE STOCK.

A large number of prize stock, imported from Canterbury, arrived here in the Wellington yesterday morning.- They were purchased there by Messrs. Morrison and Gilligan, of the Wairarapa; Mr. Donald Fraser, of Rangitikei ; and Mr. Brown, of the Nag’s Head Hotel, Wellington ; and, taking them altogether, they are an excellent lot of stock, and will no doubt prove valuable additions to the stock of this province. The Wellington also had some choice bulls on board, purchased by Mr. Wellwood of Napier, and Captain Fraser of Auckland. The following is a list of the animals, and a few particulars concerning them:— SHOBT-HOHN STOCK. Purchased by Mr. Gilligan.—Eight Lincoln hogget rams, bred by Sutton Brothers, of Southland. These animals-took the first prize in their class at the show lately held in Canterbury.—One Lincoln hogget ram, bred by Mr. Hill, of Christchurch. This animal took the second prize in its class at the Canterbury show,— Two pure bred Lincoln rams, imported to the colony by Mr. Murray. One of them took the second prize of its class in the Canterbury show.—One Lincoln ewe, imported to the colony by Mr. Hill, of Canterbury, and cost £54 when landed there. It took the second prize of its class at the Canterbury show. Purchased by Mr. Morrison.—One pure-bred yearling bull, valued at £IOO. Purchased by Mr. Donald Fraser, Eangitikei.— .Honest Tom, bull, white, calved August 26,1875, by Royal Gwynne, dam Motherless, by President, g d Belle, by Prime Minister. It gained the first prize at Christchurch in 1875, and was again highly commended the following year.—Sultan, bull, roan, calved February 15, 1876, by Royal Gwynne, dam Moss Rose, by Omar Pasha, g d Belle, by Prime Minister.—Sunrise, cow, roan, calved June 9, 1872, by Count of Oxford; dam Venus, by Comet, g d Belle, by Prime Minister. This animal has been served by Royal Gwynne.— Royal Prince of York, bull, roan, calved June 6,1874, by Eighth Duke of York, dam Princess Royal, g d Princely, by Warrior, cost 175 guineas. Purchased by Mr. Wellwood, Napier. —King of Hearts, bull, dark roan, calved April 1, 1876, by Royal Gwynne, dam Queen of Hearts, by Count of Oxford, g d Queen Mab, by Omar Pasha.—Lord Barnard, bull, dark red, calved April 29, 1876, by Royal Gwynne, dam Lady Barnard, by Comet, g d Lady Don, by Omar Pasha.—Lord Caverhill, bull, white, calved May 20, 1875, by Royal Gwynne, dam Lady, by ■ Lord John, Countess, by Young Duke. Purchased by Captain Fraser, Auckland.—Young Dolly, cow, roan, bred by Mr. G. Gould, calved February, 1873, by Count of Oxford, dam, Dolly, by Oliver Cromwell, g d Beauty, by Lord John. This animal gained the second prize at Christchurch in 1875, and has been served- by Prince of Panton.—Red Pine, bull, dark red, calved July 22, 1878, by Royal Gwynne, dam Young Dolly, by Count of Oxford, g d Dolly, by Oliver Cromwell.—Earl of Oxford, bull, dark roan, calved April 30, 1876, by Royal Gwynne, dam Countess of Oxford, by Count of Oxford, g d Queen Mab, by Omar Pasha. BLOOD STOCK. Purchased by Mr. Gilligan, bred by Mr. Redwood. —Lady of the Lake ; sire Sledmere, by Daniel O’Rourke; dam Meg Merriles, by St. George; halfsister to the celebrated mare Calumny, which was sent to Melbourne to compete in the Melbourne Cup; dam Gipsy. Gipsy is the g d of Backbiter and Calumny.

Purchased by Mr. Brown.—Nectar, brown mare. This mare won the Cup at last year’s Canterbury Races. Two valuable brood mares.
