Dumbell, Eev. W. Lockwood, Messrs, Shem, Bhenson. Elliott. Marshall, Purdy, Leahy. Jeffrey, Bagg, McLean,. Garlick, Baird, Rice, McDonald, and steamer will be launched to-morrow.

'Messrs/ McMecian, Blackwood, and Co.’s steamer Arawata, Captain Underwood, amvedhere from Melbourne via the Sonth, with the Suez mail on board, yesterday As we have been already informed, by telteraph, she has encountered very heavy weather on tho passage from Melbourne to tiie Bluff, doing some trifling damage to herself, and smashing several racing boats which were on deck: but/ nevertheless, despite l this unfavorable weather, she has made a smart passage of four days to the Bluff, and one of the ■uickestrons ever accomplished to Port Chalmers of four days seventeen hours. To Mr. L. C. Millar, . the purser, we are indebted for onr flies and a report of the trip to the effect that the Arawata left Melbourne and cleared Fort Phillip Heads at 1.30 p.m. on_the 9th inst.; passed Swan Island at 6.45 ;a.m. next day. Strong westerly winds were met with till the lltli, when they fell light and variable, which lasted np to 4 o’clock next afternoon, when the wind freshened up from the northward, increasing In violence till at 2 o’clock next morning it blew a very heavy gale, accomoanied with a high running sea, which frequently tumbled on board in large quantities, making a clean sweep of the decks. On passing the Solanders that morning at 9 o’clock the gale took off, and the Arawata was lying at theßluff the same afternoon-at 2 o’clock. Left again at 9.30 p.m., and arrived at Fort Chalmers at 7 a.m. on the 14th ; sailed at 5 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 8.30 a.m. on the 15th; left ..m» afternoon at 4.40, and arrived here at 6.45 a.m. yesterday.; Had southerly winds up the coast from Lyttelton. She will leave here with the outward Suez mails on Sunday. , The s.s. Murray had not arrived at the time of our going to press. . She left. Nelson, at 6 o clock on Tuesday evening, and has no doubt felt the effect of the southerly wind;’which has compelled her, to seek sheltertlll it moderates: , The’sonlherly wind .which blew all Tuesday night «mtinued. to.ldow.>wiOi.nnabated violence up to the miirorouf going ttf press this morning, accompanied with drenching showers and bitter cold. A heavy sea is reported as-running atthe Heads. - The steamer "Wellington will sadJortheNorthem JBeantltal Star, which struck on Shag Reef some time ago and received severe injuries, has been repaired: in: Dunedin; and is now in first-rate condition for active service. . T . The barque Southern Cross, which arrived at Lyttelton on Tuesday last, passed a vessel’s lower yard, painted white, when in 47’30 sonth- The spar did not appear to have been long in the water The' departures of the steamers, Manawatu and Stormbird for -Wanganui., and Tui for Foxton have been postponed till to-day, owing to the continued unfavorable weather. - ■ I ‘ I / ' , The R M.S.S. City of New York was to arrive here from Southern ports at an early hour this morning, but np to the hour of onr going to press she had not. As the City has to coal here and take on board a onantlty of provisions, her departure for Napier, Auckland Kandavan, Honolulu, and San Francisco will not take place till the afternoon. ;■ The s s Easby was unable; to sail for Newcastle last evening,’the bad weather preventing .her from so doing.’ She will leave as soon as it moderates. ; The' departure Of the s.s. .Arawata for Nelson has been postponed' till 8 o’clock this morning, owing to; steamer Stella -fsfesaj&'aß^a , a» two' masts. It looks a very heavy mast for such a small vessel; and jve quite apee, with a nautical gentleman who. In expressing his opinion of it, said that it Was large enough for an 800-ton sailing ship.
