FURTHER correspondence relative to the negotiou of the £4,000,000 loan has been presented to both Houses of Assembly. From this it appears that the total amount received on account of the loan up to July Bth was £3,507,152 os. Id. On the 14th June, the Agent-General wrote to Sir Julius Vogel as follows :—“ I' have the honor to recommend that the usual honorarium be given to Sir Penrose Julyan and Mr. Sargeauut, two of the loan agents, for the services rendered by them in the negotiation of the last issue of four million pounds four-and-a-half bonds.”—Sir Julius replied on June 21st: —“ I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 14th instant, recommending ‘ that the usual honorarium be given to Sir Penrose Julyan and Mr. Sargeauut, two of the loan agents, for the services rendered by them in the negotiation of the last issue of four million pounds four-and-a-half bonds.’ As you are aware, some differences of opinion have arisen between those gentlemen and myself on certain points connected with the late negotiation; but I recognise that they have had arduous duties in connection with it. I therefore authorise you to make the usual payment.”
A telegram received from Auckland yesterday stated that the Rev. Father Boibeux had died that morning, at two o’clock. The deceased gentleman was well known and respected by many in this colony. His field of labor had been successively in Auckland, Lyttelton, and again .in Auckland, where lie breathed his last. He was remarkable for gentleness of manner, au unassuming character, and his piety, zeal, and inoffensiveuess. He had been a hard worker in his Master’s vineyard for some twenty years. Rcquiescat in pace. His friends are consoled by a remembrance of liis good qualities, and by sure and certain hope. -
