The Church of England Diocesan bazaar attracted a very large number of visitors during the whole of yesterday, and it is understood that the- receipts were very large. Today will be the last of the series on which the people of Wellington will have an opportunity for possessing themselves of choice articles of rare beauty and finish. It is gratifying to see that the efforts of those who have exercised so much skill and industry in producing the various exhibits have received such substantial tokens of approval at the hands of the public. On Wednesday evening, an apprentice on board the Rodney, named John Leßoy, fell from the foretopgallant yard on to the deck, the fall being more than 100 feet, thereby sustaining a fracture of the base of the skull and comminuted fracture of the left ribs and thigh. Dr. Harris, the surgeon-superintendent, did all that could be done to alleviate his sufferings, but the poor lad died within two hours of the occurrence of the accident. The following is a return of patients in the Provincial Hospital, for the month just ended: —Admitted : males, 11 ; females, 3. Discharged : males, 10 ; females, 5. Died: males, 2. Remaining in hospital: male, 36 ; females, 6. Total remaining, 42. We notice with poignant regret that in our daily memoranda yesterday the hour of opening for the Diocesan bazaar was placed at 2 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. As an esteemed authority assures us that the most horrible inconvenience was caused by this error, in consequence of the widespread faith placed in all our announcements, we can do no more than express again the painful anguish which the inconvenience we have unwittingly caused some millions of people ha 3 occasioned us.; The City Council will meet at the Provincial Government Buildings this afternoon, at four o'clock. The Central Fire Brigade went through their usual fortnightly drill yesterday evening with marked success. The drawing of the prizes in Mr. Ludwig's art union is unavoidably postponed until the Ist day of October, The attention of investors is directed to Mr. J. H. "Wallace's sale of freeholds, to take place at 2 o'clock this day, at his new salerooms, as advertised.
