The usual quarterly returns have been published by the Commissioner of Customs. The Customs revenue for the whole colony in the September quarter, 1861, wa5£66,934 16s. Bd. as against £45,789 19s. Od. for the corresponding period of 1860. •In each of the Provinces, excepting Taranaki, there has been an increase ol revenue; it has been most marked in Otago and in Auckland. The contributions of this Province was £21,918 6s. 6d„ against £13.307 9s. sd. for the Sept, quarter of the preceding year; that of Otago £13,761165.5d. as against £B,lOB 16s. lOd. for the period hist mentioned. The value of the imports for the quarter is stated at £586,118 ; the value of imports in the September quarter of 1860 having been £417,165. Auckland has taken £160,198, and Otago £161,103; the imports in the corresponding quarter of the preceding year having been for Auckland£l46,osl, and for Otago £90,458. The quarter’s export is valued at £130,900 as against £40,785 in 1800. Otago has contributed to this total £91,916 as against £7,343 in the September quarter of 1800, and Auckland £17,574, as against £10,354 for the period last named.— New Zealander, Jan. 8.
