It is with sincere regret we have to announce the death of Daniel Wakefield, Esq., after a long illness. Mr. 'Wakefield, who was brother to Mr. E. Gibbon Wakefield, was among tbe number of old colonists, having arrived in Wellington in 1844. He filled the office of Attorney General of the Southern Province, while Sir George Grey was Governor, and during the absence of Chief Justice Martin from the Colony, he was appointed bv his Excellency Col. Browne, to the office of Actin” fudge for the Southern Distiict of New Zealand.
