To start at half-past 11 o'clock, THE WELLINGTON PRODUCE PLATE —Value 100 sovs., added to a Sweepstakes of 6 sovs., P.P., open to all horses foaled in the Colony, and that have never run in public. Weights—3 years old, 8 st. 71b.; 4 years, 9 st. 7 lb.; 5 years, 10 st. 2 lb.; and G vears old and aged, 10 st. 6 lb ; Mares and Geldings allowed 4 lbs. Two miles one event. The second horse to receive 20 sovs. out of the Stakes. No person allowed to enter a horse unless he is a subscriber of at least 2 guineas to this fund. Five Horses to start or no Race. Entrance money to be paid, and all entries, stating the name of horse, pedigree, as far as known, and colors of the riders, to be sent under sealed cover to the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer, at his office, Wellington, on or before Friday, Sth January, 1858, at 4 o’clock, p.m. The Winner to pay 5 sovs, towards the expences of the Course. THE BURNHAM WATER STAKES— Value 40 sovs., added to a Sweepstakes of .3 sovs. each, P.P., open to all horses, second horse to save his stakes. Weights—3 years old, 8 st. 7 lb.; 4 years, 9 st. 7 lb.; 5 years, 10 st.; 6 years and’ aged, 10 st. 7 lb.; Mares and Geldings allowed 4 lbs., heat-, twice round the course. No person not being a subscriber of ten guineas to the Race Fund, to be allowed to enter a horse. Second Day, FRIDAY, 22nd JANUARY, 1858. To start at half-past 11 o'clock. THE GOLD WHIP, given by Messrs. Johnston of Kelso, with 35 sovs. added from the Race Fund, together with a Sweepstakes of 5 sovs. each, p.p., open to all horses, two mites one event. Weights—3 years, 8 st 9 lb.; 4 years, 9 st. 12 lb.; 5 years, ID st. 7 lb.; 6 years and aged. 10 st. 10 lb. Mares and Geldings allowed 4 lbs The second horse to save his stakes. No person allowed to enter a horse unless he is a subscriber of at least 2 guineas to the Race Fund. The winner of the Produce or the Burnham Water Stakes to carry 3 lbs. extra. THE MAORI RACE—Value £lO, added to a Sweepstakes of 1 sov. each, owned and ridden by Manries. Heats, twice round the course. Post Entrances. Catch weights. Second horse to save his THE HANDICAP STAKES—VaIue £3O. added to a Sweepstakes of 2 sovs. each, open to all horses. Second horse to save his stakes. Two miles and a distance, one event. To be handicapped by parties named by the Stewards, immediately after the race for the Gold Whip. No person not being a subscriber of 2 guineas to the Race Fund to be allowed to enter a horse. THE HURDLE RACE—Value £-10, added to a Sweepstakes of 2 sovs. each, P.P. Heats, twice round the course, over hurdles (darkened), 3 ft. 9 in. high, (six leaps in each heat), second horse to save his stakes. Weights—3 years old, 9 st.; 4 years, 10 st.; 5 years,' 10 st. 7 lb.; 6 years and aged, 11 st. Mares and Geldings allowed 4 lbs. No person not being a subscriber of two guineas to the Race Fund, to be”allowed to enter a horse. N.B.—All horses not arriving at the Winning Post within five minutes after the first horse, will be considcred distanced. THE CONSOLATION STAKES of T2O, added to a Sweepstake of 1 sov. each, open to all horses, not winners during the Races, post entrances, twice round the course, single event. In all the above Races, (except where otherwise provided for), three horses to start, bona fide, or the public money will not be given. Subscription Lists are lying at the Union Bank of Australia, the various Hotels in Wellington, and at the Hutt, Mr. Donald’s and Mr. Gillies’ Wairarapa. All horses shall take their age from the Ist July, in accordance with the rules of the Wellington Jockey Club. 1 Entrances for all Races, except for those previously advertised, and those which are post entrances, to be made on Thursday, I4th January, 1858, between the hours of 8 and 9 o’clock in the evening, at Ferrers’ New Zealander, Manners street. A Hack Race, if time will permit, after the previous Races are over. Catch weights. Entrance One Sov. Heats once round the Course. Natives allowed to enter Horses on the same terms as Europeans. 'I heie will be a distance post in all races except the Maori Race. 1 All disputes to be settled by the Stewards, and their decision to be final. Thirty minutes will be allowed between the heats. A Bell will be rung at the end of twenty minutes for saddling, and the start will take place punctually at the half-hour. And in the event ofany horse or horses not being at the post within fu-e minutes after the Bell rings for Starting for all or any race, the starter shall be at liberty to start the horses then present. Weights and Seales will be provided on the Course It is particularly requested that all riders appear in proper costume. The colors to be stated at time of entry.
