The Superintendent of Nelson had received from the Local Government an intimation that the sum £2,000, being part of the Parliamentary Grant, was at his disposal for improving the communication between Nelson and Wairau. A sum of £6O, the unpaid balance of a donation of £lOO promised by the New Zealand Company, had been received by
the Literary Institution at Nelson, which amount had been expended, and a portion of the books, forming an addition of 165 volumes to the Library, had been received, the remaining portion is expected by the next ship.
