" ■"* **^ ' V** ripHE Public arelnfowned that in consequence 1 J! of the dangerous illness of Capt. Smith, the< amusements .on Thorndon Flat are postponed. E. Gold, Lieutenant Colonel. Wellington 12th December. 1849.

(advertisement.) Oneata, Taranaki, November 15, 1849 To the Holders of Land Orders of the Secondary Series* Gentlemen — This letter is addi essed to those among your number, who met at the Wellington Hotel on the 18th October last, .and " unanimously adopted" the following resolution •• — "That those parties who, having abandoned their country lands at Wanganui and chosen elsewhere, intend to retain their present sections, shall be considered to have abandoned their quarter acre Town sections — and this rule to apply to all who may in future abandon their country land." Gentlemen, I am one of the " parties," to whom your resolution applies ; and I declare that I have not abandoned nvy Town sections at Wanganui ; that I will not abandon them, and that I will maintain my right and property in the same against all aftd sundry. '-You cannot "resolve" and "consider" a man out of hispi'Operty — your " consideration" is not worth a straw. What right have you to meddle with me or mine ? By what Act of Parliament, Local Ordinance, or Decree of the Courts, have certain niivare persons, meeting at the Wellington Hotel, been erected into a Committee of Confiscation ? Exhibit j our Letters of Marque ! You know, one and all, that my title to the land in question, is identical with your own to your sections; but were it rotten, as it is sound, whence your authority to set it aside, and eject me 1 You manifest inclination to supersede the Courts of Law, but, happily, you are impotent as well as ready to wrong me , and as long as there is a Mr. Justice Chapman to whom an appeal can be made, I have little substantial injury to dread from your resolutions and "considerations!" Should, However, there exist any person so thoughtless, or bereft of reason, as to imagine real authority in your self- constituted tribunal, J advise him to take Notice That whosoever shall trespass on my Wanganui property shall be prosecuted according to Law ; that I hereby warn all Auctioneers against attempting to sell the same, either ** singly," or in lots to suit Suburban purchasers," and that I do not recognize the authority, and will not be bound by the acts, of the Wellington Hotel Meeting or Committee J. T. Wicksteed.
