PRINCIPLE OF THE CLOSURE CRITICISED. LONDON, July 25. Duly three of fifteen clauses of the Evicted Tenants Bill were discussed before being guillotined. Owing to many measures reaching the House of Lords with clauses passed without discussion, Lord Camperdown proposes that in future. Bills shall be so printed as to show what portions tho House of Commons have closured. The British Government has been assailed in regard to its application of the closure, especially with reference to the Evicted Tenants Bill. This rather important mear sure authorises the Estates Commissioners to compulsorily reinstate two thousand tenants, and also provides for compensation of tenants disturbed, or, in the alternative, their transference to other lands. Mr Birrell has refused to agree that the Bill shall not apply to more than two thousand tenants. D ENOAI IN A TI ON A LISGVI. DEPUTATION OF CATHOLICS. LONDON, July 25. An influential deputation of Catholics, headed by Archbishop Bourne, waited on. the Government and protested that tho new regulations must destroy the denominational character of training* colleges. In replying, Sir H. C. Bannerman (Prime Minister) and Mr McKenna (Minister of Education) maintained the equity of the regulations. They declared that the Government did not desire to impair the present character of the colleges. If the regulations did destroy the character of the colleges, the situation would be reconsidered, but the Government claimed a fair trial of its policy. 1
