MEETING OF WELLINGTON EXECUTIVE. GOVERNMENT’S LAND PROPOSALS CONSIDERED. (From Our Own .Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, July 26. The following members were present at a meeting here of the Wellington provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union:—Messrs W. J. Birch (Marton), J. R. McLennan (Waituna West), J. Morrison (Halcombe), E. H. Crabb (Kimbolton;, T. Mo.se (Eketahuna), J. C. McKillop (Maetercon), J. It. Escott (Woodville), Captain Hewitt (Palmerston), A. motion was received from Kimbolbon with reference to farmers being cited before the Arbitration Court. A copy of the demands of the Agricultural Labourers’ Union made upon the Canterbury farmers was also received and considered. It was decided to refer this matter to the branches for tionConsideration was given at some length to the Land Laws Amendment Bill, each clause coming in for a deal of discussion. It was finally resolved. on the mot*on of Messrs Crabb and Morrison, to forward the follov r ing resolution to the Minister of Lands:— “That this executive, whilst thanking. the Government for recognising the desirability of granting the freehold to L.i.P. tenants, desires to reaffirm the opinion of the Union that the only satisfactory terms of purchase are those already set cut by the Union’s platform.” Copies of the motion were ordered to bo sent to Mr Massey and the M.H.R’s for the Wellington province. The clause of the Act referring to compulsory purchase of land was, after discussion, deferred for a future meeting. The terms of lease clause was not favourably commented upon by the members, but no action was taken. It was-decided to obtain copies of the Bill for the members of the executive. An organising committee was appointed, consisting of Messrs Cooper, Matheson. McKillop, and Bidwell for the east side, and Messrs McLennan, Crabb, Richards, and Hewitt for the west coast. Mr Crabb was elected as chairman pro tern.
