AUCKLAND, July 24. The epidemic of indisposition reported from Sydney in connection with the Grand Opera Company has appeared in Auckland. When the company arrived they cut out the first matinee, which was to have taken place this afternoon. A number of country people who had turned up were disappointed, no announcement of the fact having been advertised. "Carmen" was performed all right last night, and “Tannhauser” was to have been staged to-night. When the audience arrived they found huge placards posted about the theatre, stating that owing to the indisposition of Herr Ludermann the piece could not be played, and it has now been postponed till next week. “Faust” was put on instead, 'but instead of starting at the advertised time of 7.40 did not begin till 8, and at 11 o'clock the second to last was only opening. A numb"' people left the theatre before the i/iose. Trams are now (11.30) blocking Queen street, having been waiting since 11, Che ordinary time last trams. It will cost the Tramway Company a good sum for overtime. . It was announced that Lohengrin would be played to-morrow, but that has gone by the board, and “Carmen” is to e given a second performance.
