LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL. Polling took place at Lower Hutt Thursday for the election of a member of the Borough Council, to fill the place vacated by Mr Hutchison. There were four candidates —Messrs W. Jones, A. Y. Lees, A. H. Vile, and C. H. Wildsmith. The voting was as follows: — Wildsmith 195 Lees 122 Vile 99 Jones 85 Mr Wildsmith, who was formerly a member of the Council, was declared duly elected. He briefly returned thanks for his election, promising to serve the inhabitants of the borough to the best of his ability.
The Suez services are provided for to the extent of <£6ooo and the Vancouver service £4OOO. The daily allowance to railway employees receiving not more than 10s per day, also allowances for Sunday duty and special duty are computed at £52,809, against £45,000 last year.
