The dearth of junior marine officers in Great Britain has compelled the P. and 0/ Steamship Company to subsidise suitable aspirants for a sea life. Candidates for employment in the service must be over 16 years of age, and have to be examined at the company’s London office. For selected the company pay £34 2s oa per annum towards a three years course of training in the Worcester. At its completion the lads enter th© service as cadets.
