OTAGO DOCK CONTRACT

DUNEDIN, October 25. At a meeting' of the Otago Dock Trust to-day, when the question came up of completing the contract with Luttrell and Scott, of Christchurch, attention was called to the fact that Mr G. G. Stead’s name was not down as a guarantor. Members were under the impression that Mr Stead’s name was mentioned. The chairman said Mr Geo. Scott and Mr G. G. Stead were first mentioned, but Mr George Palmer’s name was now substituted for Mr Stead’s. Mr Luttrell. * the contractor, on being called in, said there was no substitution of names. Mr Palmer was Mr Stead’s partner, and the reference to Stead and Co. was merely a guide to the Trust as to who Mr Palmer was. He believed Mr Stead would act if the Trust preferred him. It was decided to hold a special meeting to consider the matter. In the matter of the contract for the supply of cement, Briscoe and Co., tho lowest tenderers, ay rote that it would not be fair to ask them to supply one half the quantity at the same price as they had put in for the whole. It was decided to divide the contract, Briscoe and Co. supplying one half the quantity required on the basis of their original tender, and the Milburn Co. the other half on the basis of their orieinal tender.
