At the sale of new season’s wool good qualities ranged from 5 to 7£ per cent, higher than last year at the opening. Faulties are about par. Samples generally better grown and more robust. SOUTHERN STOSK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, September 6. At Addington yards to-day there were small entries of stock in most departments and a fair attendance. The few store sheep offered sold well. Fat sheep were somewhat irregular, the market opening well, but declining towards the close. There was good sale for fat cattle. Fat pigs snowed a slight improvement. Store and dairy cattle were .ull of sale. Store sheep—The only lines of store sheep in the yards were wethers, and they sold as follows:—92 at 20s, 100 at os 3d, 76 at 17s 4d. Fat sheep—The yarding of fat sheep was small, and of mixed quality. Prices opened rather above last week’s rates for prime quality, but towards the close they fell again to the previous level. A number of lines of unfinished wethers were bought by graziers. Prime wethers 24s to 26s 6d, extra to 29s 6d, medium 21s to 23s 6d, unfinished 20s to 21s 6d. prime heavy ewes 21s to 23s 3d, extra to 26s 9d, medium 18s to 20s, fair to good merino wethers 13s 6d to 17s lOd. Fat cattle —The supply of beef comprised 205 head, of which a fair proportion was of prime quality. The demand was good, and prices showed a little recovery. Six steers from Messrs Parnham Bros. (Parnham Bros. (Kaiapoi) made <£ll 7s 6d to £ll 15s, and seven from Messrs W. and C. Parnham (Kaiapoi) £7 12s 6d to £8 17s 6d, other steers brought £5 10s to £ll, heifers £5 to £8 15s, extra to £9 10s, cows £5 5© to £8 5s —equal to 22s to 24s for prime and 19s to 21s for medium tp good per 1001 b. A good yarding of veal calves sold at 7s 6d to £3. Shore and dairy cattle—A few good lots of two andt hree-vear-old steers were included in the small yarding of store cattle. All classes met with little demand. Yearlings 16s. fifteen to eighteenmonths 22s to 30s, two-year steers 65s to 695, three-year steers 95s to 97s 6d (passed), dry cows 32s 6d to 61s; the few good dairy cows offered sold at £4 to £B. Pigs.—A moderate yarding of very mixed quality. There was rather better sale for fats, but poor demand for stores. Baconers made 38s to 52s (equal to to 3?d per lb), porkers 25s to 34s 6d (equal to 4£d to 4fd per lb), large stores 16s t>o 20s, medium 12s to 15s Bd, weaners 5s to 11s. DUNEDIN. September 6. At Burnside market 120 fat cattle were yarded, principally well-finished bullocks and medium qualitv cows and heifers. Prices were from 10s to 15s higher than last week. Best bullocks £9 5s to £lO ss, extra pens up to £ll 10s. medium to good £8 to £9; best heifers £6 10s to £7 10s, good £5 15s to £6; aged cows, £4 10s to £5. Fat sheep—l64l penned, chiefly good crossbred wethers, with a few pens of ewes. There was fair demand, and prices were on a par with last week. Beet wethers 24s 6d to 26s 9d, extra prime to 9d, good 22s 6d to 245, others u pto 21s; best ewse 19s 6d to 21s; extra heavy to 22s 9d. others up to 19s. Pigs>—l2o.
