LONDON, September 10. The Labour Congress now sitting at Hanley unanimously condemned the em* ployment of Chinese labour on th# Rand.
It was decided to recommend th« supply of free meals and the institution of free medical examination for all school children; the adoption of an eight hours day - and the payment of a pension out of Imperial taxation of 5s weekly to everybody over 60 years of ago.
The Congress meets next year at Liverpool. The Trade Union Congress sitting at Hanley, by large majorities, passed resolutions approving a system of State insurance, and forcing employers to provide funds to compensate workmen for accidents and injuries under the Compensation Act.
The “Daily Mail” states that the Congress passed its resolution in favour of freetrade because under existing arrangements secretaries of unions desiring to become members of the House of Commons are tied to the Liberal party machine.
