WELLINGTON AND SUBURBAN CLUB'S MEETING. The Wellington and Suburban Coursing Club's third meeting opened at the Trentham Plumptom last Wednesday in fine weather. There was a satisfactory attendance, and . the sport provided was first-class. Thirty-five courses were run, and only five kills resulted. The improved state of the enclosure compared with meetings held earlier in the season was no doubt responsible for the small percentage of kills. Dum Dum, favourite for the Plate, made a good showing, especially in the second romjd. Defiance.. Shillelagh, and Port Arthur also did good work, and the result still bears an open appearance. Of the dogs left in the St. Leger, Laburnum is considered the most likely to win. The decisions of Mr T. Morrison, who occupied the judge's stand, gave satisfaction to owners. Mr H. W. Davies (secretary) and other officials carried out their duties capably. The final rounds of both stakes will be run this afternoon. Dum Dum who was a strong favourite for the Plate at the calling of the eax-d, went through the stake without being beaten. Mr Davie 3 has been most successful this season in

both islands. His dogs have been sent to the slips in good racing condition by Walter Glen, who trains at Hastings. The St. Leger was divided by the Dunedin dogs in the same ownership. Laburnum, favourite for the St. Leger, won a supplementary stake. He is owned by Mr F. J. Nathan, of Palmerston North, and trained by J. Fitzgerald, at Kaiwarra. The judging and slipping gave satisfaction to the club’s patrons. The success of the meeting was due to the untiring efforts of Mr H. W. Davies (secretary), and his committee.
