“The York Library.” ‘“The Miniature Series:” Geo. Bell and Sons London.
Two further volumes of each of the above series are to* hand. The York Library issues comprise Yol. V. of Emerson’s works, embracing his poetical compositions, and “Arthur Young’s Travel in Franco During the Years 1787, i 788,/ 1789.” The Eimerson collection, winch is collated and revised by Mr George Sampson, is very complete, including all the poems published in the volumes of 1847, 1867, and 1876, besides a. number of additional pieces. A full index and copious notes combine to make tike book of great value to students of the American philosopherpoet. Arthur Young’s travels are edited by Miss Betham-Edwards, who contributes. an able introduction and biography of the author, and there are a full bibliography and an index that has been compiled with evident care. This n&pnfelication of the Suffolk Squire’s notes of over a hundred years ago will be read with interest, for the insight they give into the condition of France at a memorable period of her history. In the Miniature Series, “Defoe” s dealt with by Albinia Wherry, and “Milken,” by Dr Geo. G. Williamson. Both books are well written and illustrated by protraits and facsimile reproductions.
