Store sheep again sold well. Beef was irregular and rather easier. There was improved demand for fat pigs, especially baconers. Eat sheep were not'' firm. In consequence of the mixed quality of the yarding store cattle met better sale, but dairy cows were difficult to dispose of.

Store sheep.—The yarding was 1 composed chiefly of hoggets, for which, though they sold well, the demand was hardly as keen as of late. Principal sales—6o aged ewes in lamb 16s, 60 halfbred wethers 21s Gd, 54 crossbreds 17s 7d, 76 at 17s 2d, 104 at 17s; 302 hoggets 18s, 26 at 17s 6d, 6 at 17s 9d, 500 at 17s to 17s 3d, 278 at 17s Id, 121 at 16s 9d, 151 at 16s 2d, 56 at l-5s sd, 117 at 14s, 106 at 14s.

Fat sheep—The entry was fairly large, consisting principally of crossbred and merino wethers. Of the former a considerable proportion was unfinished. The market opened very slack, but when graziers began to purchase the unfinished wethers, prices became firmer. All really prime lots sold well up to late rates, but the tone of the market generally was irregular and slightly easier. Only a few lots of hoggets were offered and they were< sold along with fat sheep. Range of prices'—Prime wethers 24s to 28s, medium 21s 6d to 23s 6d, unfinished 18s 3d to 21s; prime ewes 21s to 24s 3d, m&dium 17s to 20s, others 14s to 16s 6d; prime merinos wethers 20 to 245, medium 17s 6d to 20s, others 15s 3d to 17s; hoggets 17s to 18s 3d. Fat cattle. —The supply consisted of 197 head, which was more than was required. A few pens of prime steers sold well, but a large proportion of the entry was unfinished, and met with dragging sale, especially cows and heifers. Prices all round were rather easier. Steers sold at <£6 15s to .£l2 15s, heifers <£s 7s 6d to <£lo 7s 6d, cows <£4 17s 6d to <£B 5s (equal to 21s 6d to 23s 6d), other descriptions 19s to 21s per 1001 b. A large yarding of veal calves sold at 7s 6d to <£3.

Store dairy cattle. There were a few fair lines in the store cattle pens, and for larger sorts there was better demand, a West Coast buyer being in the market. Fifteen and eighteen ru&nths sold at 30s to .£2 2s,

two-year steers £3 to £3 9s, two-year heifers £2 18s 6d, three-year steers £3 to £4 Is, three-year heifers £4 Is (passed), dry cows 28s to £3 15s. A large entry of dairy cows, mostly medium sorts, met exceptionally dull sale. The best price at auction was £7. Pigs.—A fairly large yarding and an improved demand for baconers owing to the operations of an outside buyer. Porkers sold better and there was fair demand for large stores. Baconers made 45s to 525. equal to 3£d to 3|d per lb; porkers 26s to 345, equal to 4£d to 4|d per db; large stores 18s to 225; medium 12s 6d to 17s; weaners 5s 3d to Bs-3d. DUNEDIN, August 30. . At Burnside market to-day 250 fat cattle were yarded, which exceeded requirements. with the result that prices declined 10s to 15s per head.
