SEPTEMBER..—Sow onions, leeks, carrots, parsnips, red beet, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, curled greens, parsley, mustard, cress, radish, endive, peas, beans, celery, turnip, rhubarb, sea-kale, asparagus; also, half-hardy annuals, on a slight bottom heat, and prepare for transplanting. Sow or transplant herbs. Plant in hotbeds cucumbers and melons. The transplanting of gooseberry, currant, raspberry, strawberry, apple trees, etc., must by the end of this month be completed for the season. Sweet peas, mignonette, and all hardy sorts of annuals may be sown outdoors. Plant fuchsias, carnations, pinks, chrysamthemnme and other varieties of ornamental, herbaceous, flowering plants. Greenhouse plants re-potted last month, will require abundance of ■ air every fine day, so as to secure a healthy and vigorous growth. Vineries which were closed in last month will require frequent daily syringing® with tepid, water, in which the vine delights to luxuriate, Prick out and harden off tomatoes, cucumber, and melon plants if ready.
