AN IMPERIAL LABOUR POLICY.

ACTION AT HOME. PROPOSED DEPUTATION TO THE COLONIES. LONDON, September 1. ' The Labour Representation Committee is discussing a proposal—which is to receive “fuller consideration at another meeting in October- —for sending to Australasia and Canada, and. probably South Africa, a deputation representing all the organised labour in the United Kingdom. The proposals are to bring the labour forces of the Empire into closer touch; to discuss the fiscal question, with a view to arriving at an understanding as to the attitude of the Labour party towards the Government’s proposals at the .next election; and to support colonial labour legislation experiments. It is hoped that an Imperial labour policy will be evolved. A serious question at present is: What source y is to provide the cost of the deputation, if decided upon ? Mr Ramsay McDonald, secretary to the Representation Committee, stated to an interviewer: —“We do not propose to interfere with international arrangements or with the colonies’ fiscal matters, but we are anxious that the Labour parties in the colonies should not throw their weight in favour of a movement to which fne Home Labour party is opposed.
