A recent decision in Canada raised the question whether the Commonwealth can deport Kanakas beyond territorial limits. The High Court of Ontario holds there is no power to enforce legislation beyond the boundaries Of the country. The Prime Minister awaits an official report before expressing an ooinion. SYDNEY, August 29. An important development in connection with the oversea trade from Australasia is announced. The Bucknall line has joined forces with the Federal, Houlder, and Shire lines and a combine has been effected to meet the export demands of the approaching wool season. SYDNEY. August 30. A cyclonic disturbance is affecting a great portion of the State. There has been snow on the southern and central tablelands and rain elsewhere. The weather is bitterly cold. A south-westerly gale prevails on the coast - The observatory authorities have issued a warning that exceptionally severe weather may be expected off the coast, with dangerous conditions tween Sydney and the South Island of New Zealand. SYDNEY, August 30. The Auditor-General’s report, after showing an increase in the amount paid for old-age pensions, states that official experience does not confirm the anticipation that there would be a decrease in the expenditure on benevolent asylums and adult poor relief.
