Farrell at the meeting of the Oity Council, when the recommendation of the Streets Committee was read, that six loads of Bulli soil be got from. Australia and utilised as an experiment on the cricket pitches ip Victoria Park. The Mayor explained "r gently that Bulli soil was acknowledged to have special virtues for such purposes, and it was proposed to try the experiment as an encouragement to cricket. Mr Farrell waxed indignant, remarking, “You had better get the soil sterilised, or Dr Frengley will be after us. This heats everything—to import soil to the garden of the world. Then I’ll move an amendment to strike out the clause.” The reoommrsndation was agreed to.
