\2aptain James McPherson (says a Press Asociation telegram), died at his residence at Hamilton on the 22nd inst, aged sevent-three, after a long illness. Deceased served with the 93rd Highlanders throughout the Crimean war winning, a medal' with three clasps and’ the Turkish medal. He was also in the Indian mutiny campaign of 18579, and the Oude campaign of 1858-9. He landed in Auckland in 1861, with the 70th Surrey Regiment, and served in the Maori war of 1861-5 with that regiment and the commissariat transport corps, receiving the New Zealand medal. He was the first member of Parliament for Waikato. At the time of his death he was clerk of the Waikato County Council, a position he had held for twenty-eight years.
