TOMATOES AND POTATOES FROM ONE PLANT

Now-that.the boom in prices for fancy varieties of potatoes is fading, the discovery of a hybrid variety, by which it is possible to grow tomatoes and pota- . toes from one plant, and at the same time;- will arouse much interest. MiBell, of Mumby, near Louth, has for some years past been experimenting with this variety, and claims that the results are successful. As many of the farmers in other districts expressed doubt as to the quality of the potatoes and also' of the tomatoes grown; Mr Bell demonstrated, from growing plants, that all he claimed was correct. As an evidence of the satisfaction given, numerous applications were made to Mr Bell for seed, but as the number of tubers—which were known by the name of “Bell’s Prima Donna 1 ’ —was strictly limited, Mr Bell decided to dispose of them by public auction, and the prices realised were from 2s to' 3s for each tuber.
