Mr Owen C. Pleasants, of Halcombe, is announced as a candidate for the Oroua seat in the Liberal interest. Mr C. E. S. Gillies, the well-known golf player, died at Judge’s Bay, Auckland, last week, at age of thirtyeight. A few days ago, while playing golf, he caughtt a chill, which developed into pneumonia.’ He was a son of the late Mr Robert Gillies, of Dunedin, and nephew- of the late Mr Justice Gillies. He graduated in New Zealand and at Cambridge, and was a member of the Auckland legal firm of Gillies and Colbeck. Mr Gillies , took a great interest in acclimatisation matters.
