HAVELOCK.

Mr It. Brownlee, of Kaituna., lias made a generous offer to the Committee of the Havelock Racing Club. He lias offered them the use of a paddock for ten years to hold their race meeting. The Hon. C. H. Mills will give a presessionai address in the Town Hall, Havelock, on Saturday, 13th May. The monthly meeting of the Havelock School Committee was held on Monday evening, those present being Messrs James Brownlee (chairman), R. J. Paul, W. Pickering, F. Pope and W. Bucknran (secretary). The master's report for the month of April showed that the average attendance had been 58.90, out of a roll number of 76. He explained that an infectious complaint (chickenpox) had affected the attendance. Messrs A. Brown and R. Stansfieid were nominated for the two vacancies on the committee. Messrs Paul and Buckman were appointed a visiting committee for the month. Before Mr Scott-Smith, (S.M., on Wednesday, W. Orsraan sued Mrs R. Hart for *B9 159, goods supplied. The Magistrate intimated that the summons should have been made out in the name of the husband, unless she had property distinct from that of her husband. No order was made. Judgment for plaintiff was given in the case of A. Maul v. J. Saunderson, claim of c£l due for hire of plaintiff’s oil launch, costs 16s. F. J. Scott claimed <£l 5s from W. P. Strain on ds as the value of a calf alleged to be unlawfully detained by defendant. A verdict was given for the amount Claimed, and for the delivery of the calf.
