THE PRICE OF WOOL.
The colony is io- ho con.gnuulaiod on the fur* her advance in tho price of wool reported at tho sales which began in London on the 17th inst. We- were told some six weeks ago chat our cot iniate of the added wealth to the eel or.
to be expected from the improved prices of wool was extravagant, and that- there was every pro, poet of am advc’’so movement being recorded at the January sales, as there would he very iioa-vy catalogues of New Zealand wool at these auctions, which must tend to depress values through supplies being much in excess of tho immediatedemand. We pointed out, in reply, that the shipments so- far u ere some thousands of bales less than to the same date last year, and, moreover, that even of the wool shipped an unusually largo proportion had been sold in the colony, so- that the New Zealand cat logr.o at the London sales, instead of being extra heavy, would o-c exceptionally light. We are naturally glad to sue the forecast of ill faisin-ed and our own estimate of the gain to- the colony so far supported-. So far as can be seen at present-, there appears to he -every probability that the goo a prices now ruling wiiL be maintained till tlie bulk of our clip has been brought to market.
