SYDNEY LIVE STOCK MARKET.
At the last Homebush (Sydney) sales 14,071 sheep and lambs were penned. The sheep mainly comprised medium and useful quality merino wethers, with a sprinkling of prime and odd pens of extra prime; occasional pens of merino ewes forward, ranging from medium to prime. Crossbreds moderately in evidence, and generally of good quality, with a few prime and heavy. As the supply, though light, was ample for trade requirements, the market opened easier, and weakened under slack competition, as the sales progressed for lower qualities, while extra prime lots, which were none too plentiful, were equal to the last sale s improved rates. Merino wethers brought from 10s to 16s; extra prime, to 17s 10d. Crossbred wethers, 11s 6d to 16s 6d; extra prime, to 18s 6d. Merino ewes, 8s to 14s 3d; crossbred ewes, 11s to 16s. Lambs, of whiffi a. large number were penned, brought from 6s to 15s 6d. 1320 cattle were yarded, and comprised all descriptions, from young and light steers and heifers to extra prime and heavy bullocks, including a good representation of prime medium weight bullocks and good useful light iveight bullocks, Avell suited to the summer trade. 110 ooavs and heifers wexe included In the yarding, a fair proportion being of good to prime quality. Bullocks sold from <£6 IQs to £lO 15s; odd, to .£11; steers, £5 to £5 10s ; coavs, £4 to £6 15s; odd, to £7 18s; best beef, 22s per 100 lb.
