«, WAI OTA HI SHARES. AUCKLAND, January 13. There Avas quite a panic in Waiotahi shares on the Auckland and Thames share-markets to-day. In the morning there Avas great anxiety to sell, and shares fell to £6 os. Later in the day, hoAvever, there was news that four hundredAveight of selected stone had been secured from the breaking-down, and shares rose again to about £lO. The panic Avas apparently due to a rumour curi-ent at the Thames that the break-ing-doAvn had shot through into clay. DUNEDIN, January 13. PHogress Mines of NeAV Zealand, Ltd., returns for December. —4590 tons stone were mined and transported by aerial tramway to 65-stamp mill, where 5100 tons Avere crushed, producing 16540 z 3dwt 12gr bullion, valued at £6866 11s; 90 tons concenti*ates -were chlorinated yielding bullion valued at £990 17s sd; 4100 tons tailings Avere cyaaiided, yielding bullion valued at £BIO 14s lOd. Consolidated Gold Fields of New Zealand, Ltd.—loso tons stone were crushed at 20-stamp mill, for return of 4460 z 6dwt sgr bullion, valued at £lßl3 2s 6d; 660 tons coarse sand were cyanided, yielding bullion valued at £266 18s Bd. Wealth of Nations During the _ month 990 tons quartz were crushed at 20-stamp mill, producing 2280 z 16dwt 12gr bullion, valued at £945 16s 3d ; 9 tons concentrates were produced; 650 tons coarse sand cyanided, yielding bullion valued at £4/11 15s Id. At the Energetic Mine the main shaft was put doAvn a further 35ft-, making a total depth of 90ft sunk by the contractors. The mine closed doAvn on the 23rd for the annual holidays. , Alpine mine manager reports:— Chamber for Avinch is completed, and l all ready to start raising. Crosscut is noAA r timbered up to face. There is 4ft of stone in bottom of level at present, and in the top there is 18in on footwall side. On hanging side there is a. neAV make of stone 18in thick, with a foot of mullock between the two bands of stone. I am sending the stone to the paddock. Kohikohi Dhedge—23oz gold for 142 hours. The Takaka Sluicing Company, Ltd., reports a return of 550 z gold for fourteen days’ sluicing. The returns from the Mosquito dredge cmring the Christmas holidays are 16oz and 270 z. An accident has happened to the eieAuitor lumbler shaft, but dredging will bo resumed to-morroAV.
