REPORTED ENLISTMENT OF CHINESE

ST. PErTEIRSBURG, Nov. 23. The “Listok” has received from its correspondent at Kharbin a telegram in which he says: “I have received information from an. absolutely trustworthy source to the effect that General Okassimo and Colonel Sibato of the Japanese army have opened a recruiting station for Chinese at the village of Shilintin, 85 kilometres from the station of Hsin-min-tun. The Japanese have circulated hundreds of thousands of copies of a proclamation calling upon the Chinese to place themselves under the Japanese flag to fight the Europeans. During the first few days thousands of recruits were enrolled daily, each man immediately receiving a nose uniform. The number of applicants subsequently dwindled, however, to 1000 per day, owing to a misunderstanding with the Japanese authorities.”
