BACON-CURING.

THE WOODYILLE FACTORY. PALMERSTON, January 14. At the Fire Brigade Hall, Palmerston North, this afternoon, Mr Bailey, of Feilding. announced to a meeting of shoreliolders in the North Island Bacon Company the result of the poll taken to decide whether the company’s factory should be removed to Palmerston North. The voting was —For the proposal, 710; against, 048—carried by a majority of 62. An indication of the interest taken in the matter is that 159 shoreliolders registered votes. 'The decision now arrived at is one of the utmost importance —not. only to the shareholders of the company, but to all pig-raisers in the surrounding districts. Threats have been made at Woodville that in the event of the proposal being carried, a new factory would be established at Woodville. There can he no doubt that the removal of the company’s factory to Palmerston will be hailed with de-iis-U by the majority of those who are interested in the industry. For the last few years the company has not been in a position to meet suppliers with such prices that, suppliers considered necessary for them to make pig-rais-ing a profitable pursuit. This inability has arisen mainly from the weight of cei’tain expenditure by which the Woodvine factory has been heavily handicapped. It is claimed that by the removal of the factory to Palmerston North certain expenses will be done away with, and accordingly the supplier will receive better attention.
