There is to be a Shakespearian revival in London. “William Shakespeare, the dramatist, who gets no fees for his plays, and is, therefore, regarded as a blackleg’ by Mr Bernard Shaw and Mr Cecil Raleigh is to have a boom next year/ says the “Express” “Sir Henry Irving will be seen in two or three of his plays at Drury Lane, one of which will probably be ‘The Merchant of Venice/ in which he will repeat his memorable performance of Shy lock. Miss Edith WynneMat hison will probably be /he Portia, Mrs Cecil Raleigh the Jessica, and Miss Maud Fealy the Nerissa. At the Ad elphi Mr Otho Stuart is to produce ‘The Taming of the Shrew/ with Mr Oscar Asche doubling the parts of Christopher Sly in the induction and Petruchio. Miss Lily Brayton will play Katherine, a part associated with the name of Miss Ada Rohan.. Mr Lewis Waller is intending to produce ‘Romeo and Juliet/ in which Miss Evelyn Millard will play Juliet to his Romeo. Mr Tree will follow ‘The Tempest’ with ‘Much Ado About Nothing/ for which he has engaged Miss Winifred Emery to play Beatrice, a highly interesting and happy choice. It is twenty-two years since Sir Henry Irving and Miss Ellen Terry were first seen as Benedick and Beatrice at the Lyceum. Recently Miss Terry repeated her delightful Beatrice at the Imperial to the Benedick of Mr Oscar Asche. At His Majesty’s Mr Sidney Brough will play Don Pednoi the part acted at the Lyceum by the late William Terriss. Mr Basil Gill will be the Claudio, and Miss Viola Tree the Hero. Mr Tree will, of course, play Benedick ’*
