The Department' of Industries and Commerce lias received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, the 25th instant : " Trade for all classes of mutton has been slow, and recent prices are barely maintained. The tendency of the market seems to be to decline. Average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4-ljd per lb; for Dunedin, Southland and W.M.EI. Company’s brands is 4Jd ; for other North Island brands 4d, The lamb market is steady at quotations cabled you last week, but high prices are restricting business. This season’s New Zealand lamb is giving satisfaction to buyers. The beef market is very dull. Supplies of. River Plat£ beef are heavy. The price of Manila hemp, fair current grade, on spot to-day, is £33 10s per ton. Buyers have been inquiring more freely for cocksfoot seed.
