MR TAYLOR, OF WOODVILLE

The Taylor send-off was a great success. Although the night could not have been mere inclement, a good crowd turned out to say farewell to Mr and Mrs Taylor and family. An excellent programme of vocal and instrumental music occupied the first nart of the evening. Miss Rate Lynch Lgold medal R.A.M.), played a solo, "Highland Gems,” which was much applauded, and later on sang T'osti’s “Goodbye” in a manner which delighted her audience, who insisted upon an encore. Miss Lynch kindly responded by singing r 'Violets.” Miss Rein sang “Hush-a-bye” in a sweet way, and Miss Probert’s “Asleep in the Deep” was a pleasing item. Burnett), accompanied by Mr O’Meara, M.K.R., and the guest of the evening, ascended the dais, and in the course of his speech expressed regret at the departure of Mr and Mrs Taylor, and wished them long life, happiness and prosperity. On behalf of the inhabitants of Woodville he presented Mr Taylor with a magnificently illuminated address and a purse of sovereigns. The address, which was much admired, was the work of Mr Marryatt. It was headed Haere Ra ” and the border was relieved by little black and white sketches It was signed by H Burnett (Mayor), W. G Crawford (Town Clerk), Jos. H Harris (A. and P. Society), Jno Harris (School Committee), D G McKibbin (Farmers’ Union), R. Manisty (Horticultural Society). Mr Taylor had been twice Mayor of Woodville, one of the original members of the A. and P„ Horticultural, Borough Council, and for many years a member and Chairman of the School Committee. Mr Taylor replied in his characteristic style. Apologies for non-attendance were read from Mr C. Hall, M.H.R., and from Councillor Motley,
