In Mr Pinero’s early 'days, says Mrs Alec-Tweedie, he wrote “Two Hundred a Year" in an afternoon; “Dandy Dick" occupied him three weeks; but as time went on he became more critical of his work. He spent 15 months in completing "The Notorious Mrs Bbbsmith," nine months over “The Second Mrs Tanqueray," and six months over “The Gay Lord Quex," helped in the latter drama, as he said, by the invigorating exercise of his bicycle. He is one of the most painstaking men alive, and over “Letty" he spent two years.
