ANNUAL MEETING.

INTERESTING PAPERS.

PAIMBESTON, Juoe 23. The sixth annual meeting of the New Zealand Factory Butter and Cheesemakers’ Association was held to-night in the Fire Brigade hall. There was a large attendance. In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr W. Wright, vice-president (Wellington), occupied the chair.

The report stated that there were 188 paid-up members, as compared with 167 last year. The cash balance was <£22 10s, from which was to be deducted .£2O given to the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association as special prises for the best collection of modern dairy factory appliances exhibited at the winter show.

The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, alluded to the" benefits to be derived from membership of Buck an association, through the education from the exchange of views.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Papers were contributed by Mr Hugh Black (Okaiawa) ‘‘On Factory Management’'’ and Mr H, A. Prideaux (Midhirst) on “Care -of Milk.”' In the latter paper the. importance of preserving milk from all impurities was emphasised. -An interesting discussion followed the reading of Mr Prideaux’s paper. Several speakers dwelt on the necessity of keeping cowsheds absolutely clean, and having the sheds, as well as utensils used in handling milk, exposed to as much sunshine as possible, sunehine being recognised as the best possible disinfectant: Hearty votes of thanks were passed to Messrs Black and Prideaux. A motion stood oil. the order paper m the name of Mr Charles Cooper (Mangatola),. “That the constitution be remodelled, so that only owners of dairy factories be eligible for membership, and the as-, sociation be called the New Zealand Hairy Factory Managers’ Association.” Mi Pooper was not present, but. it was stated by the secretary that the matter was brought tor ward witn the object of raising discussion. < A good many members of the committee felt that unless the association had a more definite programme it would be better to “pitch it up altogether.” There were sixty dairy factory manager out of 188 members.

After a short discussion the motion was struck out.

It was resolved that Mr F. J. Cumber■vvorth, commis ’ion agent, Eltham, be appointed authorised labour agent for the association.

The following officers were elected: President. Mr F. J. McDonald (Inglewood); vice-presidents, Messrs N. Fulton (Rata), J. Middleton (Christchurch) and H. M. Rocke 11 (Ruahine); secretary ana treasurer, Mr J. R. Curie (.Hawera); auditor, Mr Clias. Mackie (Eltham); committee, Messrs Black (Okaiawa), Benge (Cambridge), Owilliam (Eltham), Richards (Titiorangi), West (I\ gaire), Bowman (Mokoia), Dempster (Whenuakura).
