TDURIST MATTERS

DULL TIMES AT ROTORUA.

Mr C. R. C. Robieson, Acting-Super-intendent to the Tourist Department, has returned from a visit to Rotorua and Te Aroha. He proceeded to the Hot Lakes district fey the overland route from Napier, and states that the roads in that direction were in excellent condition, which he could not say of the road between Tokaanu and Pipiriki. Tire coach is able to get through, but the numerous slips have merely been cut through to allow of this, and not removed altogether, consequently the road is a-slop for the greater part. At Rotorua Mr Robieson found things very quiet, far more so than for several off-seasons past. The reason .is attributed to diversion of the tourist traffic, particularly from America, to St. Louis. Mr Robieson fixed upon a site for the new golf-links, which are to be laid at Pukeroa Hill, half a mile from the town. He was waited upon by townspeople who asked him to have a tennis court laid down in the grounds of the Government sanatorium. A deputation also waited upon the Acting-Superintendent at Te-Aroha, on matter's concerning the baths and domain. Mr Robieson intimated that in the summer months the baths were for the future on Sunday afternoons, the charges reduced, and the library replenished. In regard to the proposal of the Te Aroha Town Council to instal electric light, Mr Robieson said thao such a forward step would tend to make Te Aroha popular, as it had done Rotorua.
