FIRES
INQUIRY AT NAPIER.
NAPIER, June 13, A Magisterial inquiry was opened on) Saturday regarding a fire which destroyed a four-roomed house at Petane, owned by Mrs Villers, and occupied by P.. JC'onnolly. The furniture was insured in the Queensland office for £ 75, and a declaration was given in that the goods lost were valued at 4958 7s. Connolly, when under examination, did not appear to remember anything about tne fire*, beyond that it took place. He and hia wife denied that the furniture had been! sent into town before the fire. The inquiry was adjourned for further evidence, the Magistrate remarking that the statements were of a very con, +-T«9ictorv nature, and the most extras ordinary ne had ever listened to.
