BURNS GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER

A great-granddaughter of Robert Burns is a resident of Nevada City, a little country town of California. Her name is Susan Eleanor Andrews, and she is the wife of Samuel Andrews. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Burns, who was the daughter of Robert Burns, one of the two sons of the poet. Robert Burns the younger had four daughters— Mary, Susan, Elizabeth or Betty, and Prudence —and one son, John. Mary, Susan and Prudence died at early ages, Elizabeth became the wife of a Scotsman named Lamon, and emigrated to the United States of America in 1835. Mrs Andrews, a dauguter of the Lamons, was born at Nusquehoning in the state of Pennsylvania in 1844. John Burns stayed with his father until the latter’s death

in 1840, and after his wife’s death m 1870 went over to the United States to join his sister, Mrs Lamon, who died in 1883, leaving four children surviving her. John Burns died in 1895 leaving four daughters—two in Ireland and two in the United States. Mrs Andrews says that the sole survivors of the Burns family are her two brothers, her sister, and herself, and the four children of Uncle John. She writes verso.
