The Railway Department lias accepted the tender of Messrs Ashby, Bergh and Co., of Christchurch, far the supply and delivery of castor oil for the railways, in the following quantities: —• At Auckland, 3000 gallons; at Wellington, 7000 gallons; at Lyttelton', 4000 gallons; at Port Chalmers, 6000 gallons. The price is Is 101 d per gallon* Eight tenders were received. The secretary (Mr G. L. Stewart) stated at Thursday’s meeting oi the Education Board that on inquiry he found that at last meetmg an eironeous statement—less tai * Education Department—had been made regarding the Parkvale-Rongokokako spiral Jants. Tlie Board had received and expended a grant for the Hongokokako School, but a second grant for the pirkvale School was not expended. On tie other hand, the expenditure of „anv thousands of pounds which had not been coyered Iby special grants had been forced on tho Board for the erection of schools in new districts and lor additions to schools in growing districts.
