RHODES SCHOLARSHIP.

NOMINATIONS RECEIVED.

Up to the present, five nominations have been made for the Rhodes Scholarship allotted to Now Zealand in terms of the will of the late Cecil Rhodes. There may he other nominations received before the date of selection (Juno 7th), for all nominations made up to and including June 6tli will ho eligible. The athletic and moral attainments of the candidates will no doubt.be orally testified to by masters and others before the Board of Selection. Meanwhile, some particulars as to the scholastic records of the five candidates already nominated will be of interest to the public:— Frederick Sinclaire, M.A.: University scholar 1898, senior scholar in Latin 1901, first-class honours in Latin and French 1902. Formerly a pupil of the Auckland Grammar School. Nominated by Auckland College Professorial Board.

Philip Wilfred Robertson: Junior scholar 1900, senior scholar in Chemistry 1903, passed final 8,,\. examination 1903. Formerly, a pupil of Wellington Coljege. Nominated by Victoria College Professorial Board.

Charles Frederick Denman Cook: Junior scholar 1900, senior scholar in Latin (also first in Greek) 1903, passed final 13. A. examination 1903. Formerly a pupil of Christ’s College. Nominated by Canterbury College Professorial Board.

Cyril James Anthony Griffin, B.Sc.: Junior scholar 1899, senior scholar : n mathematics 1902, second-class honours in science (in mathematics) 1903. Formerly a pupil of Boys’ High School, Christchurch, but for the past four years a student at Auckland University College. Nominated by Boys’ High School, Christchurch.

James Allan Thomson, U.Sc.: Senior scholar in geology 1902, first-class honours in science in geology 1903. Formerly pupil of Boys’ High Scliopl, Dunedin. Nominated by University of Otago Professorial Board.
